The Chili Fire Department Explorer program is a youth program (ages 14-18) that allows high-school aged teens the opportunity to volunteer and learn about the fire service. Post 546 has been an important part of Chili Fire Department's impact on the community for over 40 years.

  • SCBA Breathe Down 10-07-17 The Chili Fire Explorers reviewed the SCOTT 5.5 air packs and performed a breathe down drill this Saturday morning.  Explorers learned about PASS devices, how to change bottles, cleaning SCBA regulators and masks, and finally did a endurance march to see how long they could last on a SCBA bottle.   • Ground Ladders and Residential Windows 09-23-17 The Chili Fire Explorers, joined with a couple of our recruit firefighters, practiced with ground ladders and covered residential window concepts.  Explorers practiced clearing windows, leg-locks, window entry from a ladder, and window bailout concepts.  Click on the photo below for more pictures from today's training or go to our Photo Gallery page for more pictures.

  • Follow the Hose 09-16-17 The Chili Fire Explorers trained in the maze this morning covering the concept of following the attack line hose to find your way outside.  Some of the explorers also practiced finding and removing a downed firefighter along the hose line.  Click on the photo below for more pictures from today's training or go to our Photo Gallery page for more pictures.

  • Hose Line Advancement 09-09-17 Chili Fire Explorers trained on 1.75" hose line advancements this morning. Newer explorers started off with learning how attack lines handle outside before moving in to the training tower.  Explorers practiced advancing charged hoses up flights of stairs as well as through various rooms and around furniture.   • Tour of 911 Call Center The Chili Fire Explorers went to the Monroe County and City of Rochester Emergency Communication Department (911 Center). Explorers learned how 911 calls come in to the telecommunicator and get routed to the appropriate fire, police and EMS dispatchers. Dispatchers discussed the education and training requirements necessary to work at the ECD, as well as how a typical shift works. Many thanks to the dispatchers and telecommunicators today that allowed us to come visit and learn about their job.

  • 3rd Annual Explorer Camp Out Today! 08-19-17 Chili Fire Explorers will be enjoying a well deserved day off from training this Saturday morning.  Instead, today marks the 3rd annual explorer camp out behind the fire department pavilion at Company #1.  Explorers will cook out, pitch tents, play games and enjoy a campfire.  At their request, their morning breakfast will be breakfast pizza.

  • Ladders and Ventilation 08-05-17 The first part of the morning the Chili Fire Explorers learned about raising and lowering ground ladders, window entry and exit, and ladder placement.   • Search and Rescue 07-22-17 This Saturday morning the Chili Fire Explorers drilled on search and rescue skills in the Chili Fire training tower.  First set of evolutions involved teams going in and searching multiple floors for victims and removing them.  Concepts covered were left- and right-hand searches, patient packaging and moving, and communication.  The second set of evolutions, the explorers were presented with a problem to solve.  Explorers were on the second floor with a victim, but the stairwells were no longer viable and a ladder was not to the window but the victim had to be removed immediately and all they had was rescue rope (training rope really) and hand tools.  The purpose was to have the explorer teams think fast and ...

  • Hydrant and Hose 07-15-17 The Chili Fire Explorers practiced making hydrants and reviewed the Blitz fire nozzle this Saturday.  The explorers did repetitive practice with the steps of setting up an initial hydrant water supply training some of our newer members that just joined the post.  Click on the photo below for more pictures from today's training or go to our Photo Gallery page for more pictures.
