The Chili Fire Department Explorer program is a youth program (ages 14-18) that allows high-school aged teens the opportunity to volunteer and learn about the fire service. Post 546 has been an important part of Chili Fire Department's impact on the community for over 40 years.

  • Vehicle Safety and Extrication 06-16-18 Chili Fire Explorers trained on vehicle incident safety and extrication this Saturday.  Explorers started off by learning about various safety concerns with vehicle incidents that can impact how responders operate at a vehicle incident.  Explorers also learned about what to look for when arriving at a vehicle incident that will let them know what special considerations may need to be taken such as hazardous material markings, hybrid vehicle markings, downed utility or light poles, and so on.  For the remainder of the training, explorers practiced various ways of getting victims safely out of a vehicle.  Click on the photo below for more pictures from today's training or go to our Photo Gallery page for more pictures.

  • RIT Practical Evolutions 06-09-2018 Chili Fire Explorers learned a few techniques in Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) concepts this Saturday.  Explorers started off by reviewing the SCOTT RIT pack carried on every engine in Chili then moved to how to perform rescues of downed firefighters fallen through floors, and practicing various carries to get downed firefighters out from multi-floor structures.  Click on the photo below for more pictures from today's training or go to our Photo Gallery page for more pictures.

  • SCBA Breathe Down 06-02-18 Chili Fire Explorers did an air consumption drill this morning, taking advantage of a break in the heat.  The Explorers had to go through a victim carry, battle rope with two lengths of 1.75" hose for 30 seconds, a ladder raise, up-and-down stairs, tire strike with an 8lb. sledge, forcible entry simulator, and finally had to tie a fire-service knot to test their ability to mentally recall while tired before starting over.  Click on the photo below for more pictures from today's training or go to our Photo Gallery page for more pictures.

  • Ropes and Knots 05-26-18 Chili Fire Explorers' practiced their ropes and knots skills this Memorial Day weekend.  Explorers learned basic rope terminology and practiced using various knots and hitches on how to safely raise and lower tools using these skills.  Click on the photo below for more pictures from today's training or go to our Photo Gallery page for more pictures.

  • Roof Ventilation 05-12-18 The Chili Fire Explorers drilled on roof ventilation concepts Saturday morning.  The explorers learned about the purposes of roof ventilation, roof ladders, ladder nomenclature, tools used in roof ventilation, and how to safely work on roofs.  Explorers practiced making roof cuts with pick-head axes with the lower roof simulator before moving up to the upper level of the roof simulator to test their skills.  As part of learning how to work safely on a roof, the explorers also learned how to trust in their safety equipment, specifically ladder belts, when used properly.  Click on the photo below for more pictures from today's training or go to our Photo Gallery page for more pictures.

  • Hydrant and Hose and RecruitNY 04-28-18 The Chili Fire Explorers drill on hydrant and hose basics.  Explorers learned about how hydrants are setup, big-fire hook-ups, and the basics on hose work.  Today also was RecruitNY and the Chili Explorers recruited two new explorers.  Click on the photo below for more pictures from today's training or go to our Photo Gallery page for more pictures.

  • Forced Entry and Maze 04-21-18 The Chili Fire Explorers practiced forcible entry concepts and tied it in with going through the maze to make it a full scenario concept for drill.  Explorers trained on different ways to force entry, how to control the door once it is breached, and then making entry to perform a search of the structure.  Click on the photo below for more pictures from today's training or go to our Photo Gallery page for more pictures.
